Description
Peperomia Watermelon is a compact, easy-care foliage plant prized for its rounded leaves with distinctive silver and green striping that resembles a watermelon rind. It is a great choice for shelves, desks and bright indoor spaces, and its relatively slow growth makes it easy to manage. Unlike many tropical houseplants, Peperomia Watermelon stores moisture in its thick leaves, so it prefers to dry out between waterings rather than remain constantly wet. Give it bright, filtered light, a warm position and a very free-draining soil mix, and it should remain healthy and compact.

- Type: Foliage Houseplant
- Flowers: Can produce small, upright greenish-white flower spikes, although it is mainly grown for its attractive foliage.
- Sunlight: Bright, indirect light is ideal for maintaining the strong leaf pattern. It can tolerate some softer morning or late-afternoon sun, but avoid intense midday sunlight.
- Water: Allow the top 3–5cm of soil to dry before watering again. Water thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain away. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet, as overwatering is one of the main causes of root rot.
- Soil: Use a light, airy, fast-draining mix. A houseplant mix amended with perlite or another drainage material works well.
- Temperature: Prefers 18–26°C. Protect it from cold temperatures, cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
- Humidity: Normal household humidity is generally sufficient. It does not require the very high humidity that many tropical plants do.
- Maintenance: Remove damaged or yellowing leaves and rotate the plant occasionally so it receives even light and maintains balanced growth. Avoid leaving water sitting on the leaves for prolonged periods.
- Feeding: Feed with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.
