Description

Peperomia Caperata Variegated is a compact and colourful foliage houseplant with deeply rippled, heart-shaped leaves displaying a striking mix of red, burgundy, pink, copper, green and cream tones. Each leaf can have a different pattern, making every plant unique and giving it a vibrant, almost painted appearance. Its thick, fleshy leaves store moisture, so it prefers to dry out between waterings rather than remain constantly wet. It is ideal for shelves, desks and smaller indoor spaces and thrives in bright, indirect light, warm temperatures and a light, well-draining soil mix.

• Type: Foliage Houseplant
• Flowers: Can produce slender, upright flower spikes, although it is primarily grown for its colourful, textured foliage.
• Sunlight: Bright, indirect light is ideal for maintaining the strongest red, pink and variegated colouring. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and cause fading.
• Water: Allow the top 3–5cm of soil to dry out before watering thoroughly. Always allow excess water to drain away. Its fleshy leaves retain moisture, so overwatering is a bigger risk than allowing it to become slightly dry.
• Soil: Use a light, airy and fast-draining potting mix, ideally amended with perlite to improve drainage and airflow around the roots.
• Temperature: Prefers 18–26°C and stable indoor conditions. Protect from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.
• Humidity: Average household humidity is suitable. Moderate humidity is beneficial, but very high humidity is not essential.
• Maintenance: Remove yellow or damaged leaves and rotate the plant regularly to encourage even growth. Avoid excessive handling of the textured foliage.
• Feeding: Feed with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer, diluted according to the product instructions. Reduce feeding during cooler months.

Crucial care tip: Do not overwater. Allow the soil to dry between waterings, as the thick leaves store moisture and constantly wet soil can quickly cause root rot.
