Description

Kale is a nutritious, cool-season leafy vegetable known for its attractive, textured leaves and excellent flavour. The leaves can be harvested young for salads or allowed to mature for use in cooked dishes, soups, smoothies, and stir-fries. Easy to grow in vegetable gardens, raised beds, and large containers, Kale 6 Pack provides a long harvest period when leaves are picked regularly from the outside of the plant. Depending on the variety, plants generally grow to approximately 30–60cm tall and 30–45cm wide.

Care Guide

Type: Cool-season leafy vegetable with an upright growth habit and continuously produced edible leaves.

Sunlight: Plant in full sun for the strongest, healthiest growth. Choose a position that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. In warmer weather, light afternoon shade can help protect the leaves from excessive heat.

Water: Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Avoid allowing the soil to dry out completely, as uneven watering can slow growth and affect leaf quality. Water deeply at soil level rather than frequently wetting the foliage.

Soil: Grow in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with plenty of compost or organic matter. Kale is a heavy feeder and benefits from nutrient-rich soil to support continuous leaf production.

Frost: Frost hardy and well suited to cooler growing conditions. Established plants can tolerate light to moderate frost, and cooler temperatures may improve the flavour of the leaves.

Maintenance: Feed regularly with a nitrogen-rich or balanced vegetable fertiliser to encourage healthy leaf growth. Harvest the older outer leaves first, leaving the centre of the plant to continue producing new growth. Check regularly for aphids and caterpillars, particularly on the undersides of the leaves.
