Description
Limestone Ammonium Nitrate (L.A.N.), also known as K.A.N. or C.A.N., is a nitrogen-rich granular fertilizer primarily used to stimulate rapid leaf and vegetative growth. It typically contains 28% nitrogen and includes limestone (dolomite) to provide calcium and magnesium while helping to balance soil pH.
Key Benefits and Composition
- High Nitrogen Content: Contains 28% total nitrogen, often split 50/50 between nitrate-nitrogen (for immediate uptake) and ammonium-nitrogen (for sustained release).
- Secondary Nutrients: Provides essential calcium (approx. 4.1%) and magnesium (approx. 2.1%), which are critical for cell wall strength and chlorophyll production.
- Soil pH Management: The limestone component makes it less acidifying than other nitrogen sources like urea, making it suitable for a wide range of soil types.
- Fast Results: Because the nitrate portion is immediately available, it is often used as a first application after winter for “fast green-up”.
