Description
Callistemon Little John 2.5LT is a compact evergreen shrub known for its deep red bottlebrush-shaped flowers and distinctive blue-grey foliage. Its naturally dense, rounded growth habit makes it ideal for low hedging, borders, rock gardens, containers, and mass planting. The nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and nectar-feeding birds, adding both colour and wildlife value to the garden. Callistemon Little John 2.5LT grows to approximately 60–90cm tall and 60–90cm wide at maturity.
Care Guide
Type: Compact evergreen flowering shrub with a naturally dense, rounded growth habit.
Sunlight: Plant in full sun for the strongest growth, best foliage colour, and most abundant flowering. Choose a position that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
Water: Water regularly while the plant is establishing, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Once established, it becomes moderately drought tolerant but benefits from deep watering during prolonged hot or dry periods.
Soil: Grow in well-drained soil enriched with compost or organic matter. It adapts to a range of soil types but should not be planted in areas where water remains around the roots for extended periods.
Frost: Light frost tolerant once established. Protect young plants from severe frost during their first few winters, particularly in colder inland areas.
Maintenance: Prune lightly after flowering to remove spent blooms and maintain its naturally compact shape. Avoid heavy pruning into old wood. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy growth and abundant flowering.
