Description
Callistemon Little John 10LT is a compact evergreen shrub valued for its deep red bottlebrush-shaped flowers and attractive blue-grey to grey-green foliage. Its naturally dense, rounded growth habit makes it ideal for low hedges, borders, rock gardens, containers, and mass planting. The nectar-rich flowers also attract bees, butterflies, and nectar-feeding birds. Callistemon Little John 10LT grows to approximately 60–90cm tall and 60–90cm wide at maturity.
Care Guide
Type: Compact evergreen flowering shrub with a naturally dense, rounded growth habit.
Sunlight: Plant in full sun for the healthiest growth, best foliage colour, and strongest flowering. Choose a position that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. It can tolerate light semi-shade, but flowering may be reduced.
Water: Water regularly while the plant is establishing, keeping the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged. Once established, it becomes moderately drought tolerant but will perform best with occasional deep watering during extended hot or dry periods.
Soil: Grow in well-drained soil enriched with compost or organic matter. It adapts to a range of soil types but should not be planted in areas where water remains around the roots for long periods.
Frost: Light frost tolerant once established. Protect young plants from severe frost during their first few winters, particularly in colder inland areas.
Maintenance: Prune lightly after flowering to remove spent blooms and maintain its naturally compact, rounded shape. Avoid heavy pruning into old wood. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy new growth and abundant flowering.
