Description
Buxus macowanii (Cape Box) 2.5LT is a hardy indigenous evergreen shrub with small, glossy dark green leaves and a naturally dense growth habit. It is an excellent alternative to traditional box hedging, making it ideal for formal hedges, borders, topiary, and screening. Naturally resilient and easy to shape, Buxus macowanii (Cape Box) 2.5LT grows to approximately 2–4m tall and 1.5–3m wide if left unpruned, but can be kept much smaller with regular trimming.

Sunlight: Thrives in Full Sun to Semi-Shade. It grows well in a variety of light conditions, with full sun encouraging dense growth and semi-shade helping maintain lush foliage in hotter regions.
Water: Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it is moderately drought tolerant but performs best with occasional deep watering during prolonged dry periods.
Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost. It adapts well to most soil types provided drainage is good.
Frost: Frost Hardy. Tolerates light to moderate frost and is well suited to most South African climates.
Maintenance: Trim regularly to maintain a formal hedge or topiary shape. Feed with a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring to encourage dense, healthy new growth.
