Begonia Rex Various is a striking foliage houseplant known for its beautifully patterned leaves, often featuring shades of green, silver, pink, purple and burgundy. It makes a colourful addition to shelves, windowsills and indoor plant collections, where its decorative foliage can be enjoyed year-round. While it can produce small flowers, Begonia Rex is primarily grown for its impressive foliage. It prefers bright, indirect light, warm temperatures and consistently lightly moist, well-drained soil.
Care Guide:
- Type: Foliage Houseplant
- Flowers: May produce small, delicate flowers, but is primarily grown for its decorative foliage.
- Sunlight: Bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and fade their colours.
- Water: Water when the top layer of soil feels slightly dry. Keep the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged, and avoid allowing the plant to sit in water.
- Soil: Use a fertile, loose, well-drained potting mix with good drainage.
- Temperature: Prefers warm indoor conditions around 18–24°C and should be protected from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
- Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity. Keep away from heaters and air conditioners, but avoid leaving the leaves constantly wet.
- Maintenance: Remove yellow or damaged leaves regularly to keep the plant healthy and looking its best. Avoid unnecessary handling of the leaves, as they can be delicate.
- Feeding: Feed with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the growing season, following the product instructions.
